Winter has its way with us. It begins to remove light from our days. Incrementally. Tortuously. Almost imperceptibly. But it does. It can leave you thinking that there is no point bringing out the camera. Unless you are me. There is always a point in bringing out the camera. If I did not bring it, I would be looking at the world through the same eyes and thinking to myself, ‘why did I leave it behind?’
Walking is a habit for me. Easier perhaps when you have a dog to walk. Which I do now. For 4 weeks, whilst the owner catches some rays and rides a motorbike across Vietnam. Photography is a habit too. It did not save my life but it did make me look differently at the world. Permanently.
And so, these last few days, in the rain, between the rain, around the rain, me and the dog and a variety of sticks, we walked. Actually he ran a lot. After the sticks I threw. I walked. Eyes open. Same circuit. Same landscapes. Same water.
Never the same though.

As you say, so many moods, never two the same. That car ferry, I imagine, is a fair sized ship. Against the magnificent dark hills and big sky, it looks almost toy-like. Wonderful.
“Never the same though.” Such true words. Wherever I have lived, I have had a favourite, usually circular, walk; and have usually taken a camera. Some of the images look like they were taken in different places or epochs, depending on weather, light, even my mood. And some days these places call to you, when others it might just be a slog. Never the same though.
Enjoy your bonny dog!
