‘Let us move, maybe,
into another realm
where our differences
will be none’
I wrote this in the transcendental phase of my life.
It seemed like an honest sentiment at the time.
I really believed in unity.
I meditated for hours every day to connect with this reality.
I see a blindness in those words now.
I forgive myself.
“until the philosophy
which holds one race superior
and another inferior
is finally and permanently
discredited and abandoned
until there are no longer
first-class and second-class
citizens of any nation”
I believed that the world might come together, as one family, one nation.
That we might recognise our collective nature in relation to all beings was commonality.
We have not.
The UK council election results this morning illustrate the reality.
“until the color of a man’s skin
is of no more significance
than the color of his eyes
until the basic human rights
are equally guaranteed to all
without regard to race”
If even just one of us is not free, then none of us are.
We are not together. We are divided.
No judgement here.
Sadness arising.
Resolve too.
“until that day,
the dream of lasting peace
and world citizenship
and the rule of international morality
will remain but a fleeting illusion,
to be pursued but never attained”
We
Are
Responsible
Italicised text taken from a speech by Haile Selassie which was then used by Bob Marley in the song WAR.

we are responsible. a phrase i will gladly echo. this is powerful. thank you.
My heart is heavy with these same sentiments, Paul. We must learn to love one another. So beautifully expressed.
